Jill Bolte Taylor's stroke of insight

A dear client of mine gave me a homework today (May 17th, 2012). This is the first time that I have received homework from a client. She felt that I have talked to her many times about how the brain works and there is a lot of similarity between what I told her and what Jill is talking about. Getting homework actually feels good. Most of the time I am the one asking my clients to do some homework. Hmm!

My homework is to listen to Jill Bolte's stroke of insight video at http://www.ted.com/talks/jill_bolte_taylor_s_powerful_stroke_of_insight.html and give her my take on it.

Left and Right hemispheres of your brain

I enjoyed listening to her video. She had a stroke due to which she lost the functions of her left brain. Her consciousness changed as a result and she experienced the beauty of living with the right brain. She talks about her out of body kind of experience. She felt enormous and expansive, full of joy, euphoria. She describes being an energy being. Listen to it for more information.

My take on this is as follows:

Our ability to transcend from left brain to right brain seamlessly is our spiritual quest on this planet. We are part of collective consciousness (right hemisphere), very expansive, full of joy, happiness, compassion, love, peace.

At the same time we are an individual (left hemisphere) with a given EGO, separated deliberately from the universal consciousness, so we can perceive the world from our EGO viewpoint, learn our lessons and focus on our growth. Ultimate goal is to learn all the lessons over lifetimes and then merge effortlessly into the universal consciousness, enjoying bliss forever. That is enlightenment, nirvana, moksha, whatever name you wish to call it.

However it is not the final destination that is our goal at this moment in this lifetime for most of us. It is the journey that is important. It is the journey that will smoothen the roughness of our inner self to reveal the smooth precious gem within. It’s like we are a drop of water separated by our EGO from the ocean right now. One day this drop of water will find its way to the ocean and enjoy being the ocean with no separation from the ocean.

There is a reason why we are a separate drop of water right now. There are no accidents in nature. We need to recognize our current form.

I feel many people are so focused on the final destination that they are missing on walking the path and enjoying the path and learning from the path. It’s good to see pictures of Mt Everest peak to know our destination, but to reach there, one has to be focused on the journey to reach the top, one has to be in the present moment, aware of each step, aware of the dangers, aware of the beauty, aware of what needs to be done to take the next step. It is this present moment awareness that will reveal the next step and the next and the next. It is in the present moment that we can learn, we can enjoy, we can grow.

Enjoy this journey you are on now.

God's (Universal consciousness, Higher consciousness or whatever name you want to call it by) purpose for you is simply perfect. He wants to show you things that only you can understand by living what you are living and by being in the place you are now.
With compassion, love and understanding for yourself and for others, we can all grow.

Motivational Reading - Adversity

Farmer and Mule
Hope you are all doing fine. The weather here is cloudy today, seems like winter is on the way. I love all seasons. In winter days are shorter so you get more time to spend at home, which is good.

Recently I bought a package of things to read and in there was a section on motivational stories. Thought I would share them with you all as they are really great. This one is called Adversity. Check it out.

A farmer owned an old mule. The mule fell into the farmer's well. The farmer discovered the mule 'braying' -- or whatever mules do once they fall into wells. After cautiously assessing the state of affairs, the farmer felt sorry for the mule, but resolved that neither the mule nor the well was worth saving.

Rather, he called his neighbors together and told them what had occurred and asked them to help haul dirt to bury the old mule in the well and put him out of his misery.

At the start, the old mule was hysterical! But as the farmer and his neighbors proceeded shoveling and the dirt hit his back, a thought struck him. It all of a sudden dawned on him that every time a shovel load of dirt landed on his back: he had better shake it off and step up! This is what the old mule did, blow after blow. "Shake it off and step up... shake it off and step up... shake it off and step up!" he repeated to encourage himself.

Regardless how painful the blows, or distressing the state of affairs appeared, the old mule fought "panic" and simply kept right on shaking it off and stepping up! You guessed it! It wasn't long before the old mule, battered and exhausted, stepped triumphantly over the wall of that well!

What appeared like it would bury him, actually end up blessing him. All because of the manner in which he handled his hardship.

I am sure you enjoyed it as much as I did. I love the phrase 'Shake it off and step up'. Remember the moral of the story and use it in your life.

Keep having fun.

Cheers,

Karuna.

Make "Brisk Walking" A Positive Habit

Hello everyone.

Instead of reviewing a book, I am sharing something that I believe you will enjoy reading and can include it in your life now. Feel free to share this with your friends and family. We keep looking for complex ways to solve simple issues. In this article I wanted to bring to your notice how a simple act like walking can provide immense benefits to your physical, mental and emotional health. Happy reading!

"Not running, not jogging, but walking is your most efficient exercise and the only one you can safely follow all the years of your life." - Executive Health Organization

"Walking is man's best medicine." -Hippocrates

Walking as a daily exercise habit can truly be a life-changing positive habit and is one of the most powerful habits for reaching your goal of a healthy trim and fit body. Over the past 20 years, there have been dozens of studies that have proven the benefits of brisk walking.
Thousands upon thousands of people have improved their health and lost weight by the diligent habit of walking. If you think that walking does not provide the same benefits as other more vigorous exercises, think again.

A study published by the New England Journal Of Medicine showed that postmenopausal women who walked regularly lowered their risk for heart disease just as much as women who did more vigorous exercise, such as playing sports or running.
This study suggests that walking is just as good for your heart as heavy exercise. I spoke with study author Dr. JoAnn E. Manson, Chief of Preventive Medicine at Brigham and Womens Hospital, Professor of Medicine, at Harvard Medical School. She said, "The study provides compelling evidence that walking and vigorous exercise provide similar heart benefits, about a 30% to 40% reduction in the risk of cardiovascular disease with 30 minutes per day of either activity."

I also asked her about the benefits of making brisk walking a positive habit, and she responded, "they could surely walk away from heart disease and several other chronic diseases. We have also found that brisk walking for at least 3 hours a week can lower the risk of stroke, type 2 diabetes, and breast cancer.

No pain, no gain, is an outdated notion; exercise doesn't need to be strenuous or uncomfortable. It can be easy and enjoyable." Even though the study consisted solely of women, it is likely that men would experience similar benefits from the positive habit of brisk walking.
Here are additional benefits you will receive from your habit of brisk walking:
* Walking burns calories and helps you lose weight and burn excess body fat.

* Walking can help to improve your posture.

* Walking requires no special equipment or gyms.

* Walking can help lower blood pressure and help prevent circulatory and heart disorders.

* Brisk, aerobic walking will give you the benefits of other exercises, such as jogging and cycling, but without the risk of injuries.

* Walking at night can help promote better sleep.

What are the top 10 reasons to walk?

Hiking is a great walking exercise for mind and body.

1. Walking prevents type 2 diabetes. The Diabetes Prevention Program showed that walking 150 minutes per week and losing just 7% of your body weight (12-15 pounds) can reduce your risk of diabetes by 58%.

2. Walking strengthens your heart if you're male. In one study, mortality rates among retired men who walked less than one mile per day were nearly twice that among those who walked more than two miles per day.

3. Walking strengthens your heart if you're female. Women in the Nurse's Health Study (72,488 female nurses) who walked three hours or more per week reduced their risk of a heart attack or other coronary event by 35% compared with women who did not walk.

 4. Walking is good for your brain. In a study on walking and cognitive function, researchers found that women who walked the equivalent of an easy pace at least 1.5 hours per week had significantly better cognitive function and less cognitive decline than women who walked less than 40 minutes per week. Think about that!

6. Walking helps alleviate symptoms of depression. Walking for 30 minutes, three to five times per week for 12 weeks reduced symptoms of depression as measured with a standard depression questionnaire by 47%.

7. Walking reduces the risk of breast and colon cancer. Women who performed the equivalent of one hour and 15 minutes to two and a half hours per week of brisk walking had an 18% decreased risk of breast cancer compared with inactive women. Many studies have shown that exercise can prevent colon cancer, and even if an individual person develops colon cancer, the benefits of exercise appear to continue both by increasing quality of life and reducing mortality.

 8. Walking improves fitness. Walking just three times a week for 30 minutes can significantly increase cardiorespiratory fitness.

9. Walking in short bouts improves fitness, too! A study of sedentary women showed that short bouts of brisk walking (three 10-minute walks per day) resulted in similar improvements in fitness and were at least as effective in decreasing body fatness as long bouts (one 30-minute walk per day).

 10. Walking improves physical function. Research shows that walking improves fitness and physical function and prevents physical disability in older persons. Walking is good for your bones. Research shows that postmenopausal women who walk approximately one mile each day have higher whole-body bone density than women who walk shorter distances, and walking is also effective in slowing the rate of bone loss from the legs.

The list goes on, but if I continued, there'd be no time for you to start walking! Suffice to say that walking is certainly good for you!

The Secret - Book by Rhonda Byrne

Today I wanted to bring you an old favorite book of mine called 'The Secret'.  I got this book in the streets in Delhi, India. An old worn out copy of the book. I was traveling and needed a book to read on the flight. What a blessing that was!

The book is not really a story or to be read from page 1 to end. You can open any page and there is something to learn and digest.

Today I am writing about Page 40, 41 in my copy of the book.

"Bob Proctor - Life can be absolutely phenomenal, and it should be, and it will be, when you start using The Secret.

This is your life, and it's been waiting for you to discover it! Up until now you may have been thinking that life is hard and a struggle, and so by the law of attraction you will have experienced life as hard and a struggle. Begin right now to shout to the universe, 'Life is so easy! Life is so good! All good things come to me!"

Karuna-> My thoughts now. My business and personal motto is 'Success is not an Accident'. Whatever we are enjoying or not enjoying now, is a result of the way we have programmed our mind. So if you want to experience a new definition of success in your life, you have to install a new program in your mind. Then you have to create desire, belief and expectancy in the new definition of success. And then you will attract it / manifest it in your reality.  Based on tons of research on mind-body connection, there is a way of defining your goals, installing them at the right levels of your mind and then using technqiues to manifest the same in your reality or one may say  attracting the same in your reality. I conduct classes and do 1X1 therapy sessions to help people to adopt this methodology.

"Jack Cansfield: Since I learnt The Secret and started applying it to my life, my life has truly become magical. I think the kind of life that everybody dreams of is one I live on a day-to-day basis. I live in a four-and-half-million-dollar mansion. I have a wife to die for. I get to vacation in all the fabulous spots of the world. I've climbed mountains, I've explored, I've been on safaris. And all of this happened, and continues to happen, because of knowing how to apply The Secret".

Karuna-> I am wondering if you have already guessed The Secret or not. I don't want to rob you of the pleasure of discovering it from the book or the movie.

I welcome your feedback on the book and what it means to you. Which phrases and quotes have been inspirational to you.

Together we can make this world a better place.

Have a fun day.

Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T.Harv Eker 224 pages

Happy Happy New Year 2011.
Sharing notes and my thoughts (KJ) about the book 'Secrets of the Millionaire Mind': Mastering the Inner Game of Wealth by T.Harv Eker.
“It all comes down to this: if your subconscious ‘financial blueprint’ is not ‘set’ for success, nothing you learn, nothing you know, and nothing you do will make much of a difference.”

~ T. Harv Eker from Secrets of the Millionaire Mind
KJ-> Think of your brain as a computer. Our beliefs are software programs loaded in our computer. If the program is not getting you the desired results, you need to update the program or install a new program that gives the results you want. So find a way to change your beliefs about your financial success. Hypnotherapy is highly effective in changing / rewiring ourselves.

PLAYING TO WIN

“The first thing I did was commit to my success and playing to win. I swore I would focus and not even consider leaving this business until I was a millionaire or more. This was radically different from my previous efforts, where, because I always thought short-term, I would constantly get side-tracked by either good opportunities or when things got tough.”

KJ-> This is really BIG! How many times we give up or start something else when the going becomes tough. I know I have done that and get tempted to do it many times. Take the easy way out. But if you really want to persue what you are passionate about and make money from it, you have to persist. Work SMART not just HARD. Use the power of your mind to help you work SMART. There will be struggles, obstacles on the path to success, we all know that. Commit to riding these struggles and coming out a winner.

DECLARATIONS VS. AFFIRMATIONS
“An affirmation states that a goal is already happening. I’m not crazy about this because, often when we affirm something that is not yet real, the little voice in our head usually responds with ‘This isn’t true, this is BS’ … On the other hand, a declaration is not saying something is true, it’s saying we have an intention of doing or being something. This is a position the little voice can buy, because we’re not stating it’s true right now, but again, it’s an intention for us in the future.”
KJ-> This really depends on how you state your affirmations according to me. You can state your affirmation in a declarative tone, something happening, in the process of happening etc versus stating a fact. So go ahead and make your declarations/ affirmations and use them repetitively and consistently. Repetition is the key to mastery (yeah, my clients know that ).

P—>T—>F—>A—>R

“Your programming leads to your thoughts; your thoughts lead to your feelings; your feelings lead to your actions; your actions lead to your results. Therefore, just as is done with a personal computer, by changing your programming, you take the first essential step to changing your results.”

KJ-> Remember the notes I did for ‘Change your Brain, Change your Thoughts’ book. Thoughts are so so powerful. They start the chain of change in you. Thoughts are linked to our feelings, our emotions and our emotions lead us to take action. So assign right thoughts with your affirmations, link feelings and emotions to these thoughts and your powerful mind will direct you to take the actions.

GROW!
“It’s simple arithmetic: ‘Your income can grow only to the extent you do.’”

“You can be a victim or you can be rich, but you can’t be both. Listen up! Every time, and I mean every time, you blame, justify, or complain, you are slitting your financial throat.”

KJ-> I think the statement says it all. It all comes back to your thoughts. Beware of blaming, complaining thoughts! They don’t lead to success. Find things you can learn from any situation and believe me, there is always something to learn from every experience.
THOUGHTS & RENT

“No thought lives in your head rent-free.”

KJ-> Amazing statement. Something to reflect on, think about. Every thought produces a physiological reaction in your body. So negative, unproductive thoughts are really really expensive. BEWARE!

STEERING WHEELS

“If you want to create wealth, it is imperative that you believe that you are at the steering wheel of life, especially your financial life.”

KJ-> Don’t act like a victim. What can I do, the economy is in a bad state etc etc. Take charge of your financial success. There are people making money in every economy, so it’s an excuse to blame the circumstances. We are the creators of our future.

ARMS & LEGS

“Let me put it bluntly: anyone who says that money isn’t important doesn’t have any! Rich people understand the importance of money and the place it has in our society. On the other hand, poor people validate their financial ineptitude by using irrelevant comparisons. They’ll argue, ‘Well, money isn’t as important as love.’ Now, is that comparison dumb or what? What’s more important, your arm or your leg? Maybe they’re both important.”

KJ-> Check your beliefs about money. What are the beliefs. Are they helping you in reaching your goal of financial independence. If not, do you need to change them, reprogram your beliefs. Take time to reflect.

DON’T COMPLAIN!

“Complaining is the absolute worst possible thing you could do for your health or your wealth. The worst! … For the next seven days, I challenge you not to complain at all.”

KJ-> This is a real big one. In fact I think we should make a goal for ourselves in 2011 to transcend complaining and that should pave the way to Nirvana   But seriously do you complain a lot? Do you realize that you are complaining? Are you stating that you are powerless and a victim when you complain? Is that what you want to state? Change your thoughts! Get back in the driver seat, take control of your life.
WANTING VS. COMMITTING

“Rich people are committed to being rich. Poor people want to be rich.”

KJ-> Check it out, rich people are ‘COMMITTED’. That’s the key word. Just wanting most likely will not get you financial success. You have to have goals, you have to be COMMITTED to your goals. In fact, I do classes on Goal Setting. Not only you need to have goals, you need to learn how to define your goals, how to install them in the right levels of your brain where they can be effective, how to manifest these goals. There is real science behind all of this now.

SIZES: YOU VS. YOUR PROBLEMS

“If you have a big problem in your life, all that means is that you are being a small person!”

T. Harv has a great little story about the size of your problems vis-à-vis the size of you and your character.

Imagine you are a person with a character rating of 3 out of 10. You see a problem that is a 4 out of 10. How do you respond? You’re stressed, eh?

Now, imagine you’ve got a character that’s 7 out of 10. How’s that 4 problem look to you? Not that big of a deal, is it? Didn’t think so.

OK. NOW, imagine that you’ve worked on yourself and developed a character of 10 (!) out of 10. You see that 4 problem? Or do you even SEE it as a problem if you’re operating at a 10? I didn’t think so.

GROW and your problems will shrink. It’s that simple.

KJ-> Beautiful story. I am sure you enjoy it as much as I do.

ACTION & INACTION

“Action always beats inaction.”

KJ-> Obvious, right. But how often do we follow it. Take a moment and reflect. If your thoughts are aligned to your goals and you have the right feelings about your goals, then action will follow. So go back to learn how to define and set goals.

BLESSINGS

“Bless that which you want. If you see a person with a beautiful home, bless that person and bless that home. If you see a person with a beautiful car, bless that person and bless that car. If you see a person with a loving family, bless that person and bless that family. If you see a person with a beautiful body, bless that person and bless their body.”

KJ-> Takes away jealousy. Gratitude is a powerful emotion and if you remember the book ‘Power v/s Force’ (check it out on my blog), gratitude will raise your vibrations making it easier to reach your goals.

AFFECTING VS. INFECTING

“Energy is contagious: either you affect people or you infect people… I believe negative thinking is like having measles of the mind. Instead of itching, you get bitching; instead of scratching, you get bashing; instead of irritation, you get frustration. Now, do you really want to be close to people like that?”

KJ-> This is really funny, isn’t it. And beyond fun, it is so profound. Have you met people who drain you, infect you with negativity? Since you are reading this blog, I know you are not one of them. Find a way to protect yourself from these energy infectors / energy drainers.

MONEY MANAGEMENT 101

“I don’t know about you, but where I went to school, Money Management 101 wasn’t offered. Instead we learned about the War of 1812, which of course is something I use every single day.”

KJ-> I really have a lot of thoughts on our school system. I wish they would update it to teach practical things that will be really useful in life. I see some of the teachers are so insistent on following exact steps in maths that they will punish a kid for using a better way. Where is creative thinking? Hmm, don’t want to go down this path.

CZ = WZ

“Here’s an equation I want you to remember for the rest of your life: CZ = WZ. It means your ‘comfort zone’ equals your ‘wealth zone.’ By expanding your comfort zone, you will expand the size of your income and wealth zone.”

KJ-> You must write this on Post-It and stick it where you can see it. Are you spending your day in your comfort zone always. Did you do something outside your comfort zone today? Start expanding your comfort zone and you will expand your brains.

“Comfort kills! If your goal in life is to be comfortable, I guarantee two things. First, you will never be rich. Second, you will never be happy. Happiness doesn’t come from living a lukewarm life, always wondering what could have been. Happiness comes as a result of being in our natural state of growth and living up to our fullest potential.”

~ T. Harv Eker

KJ-> Want to end on this beautiful quote. Life is for learning and growing and not stagnating.

Have a wonderful, happy, healthy New Year 2011. As always, send in your comments, feedback on the note. Happy Blogging.

Want to thank Brain from Philosophers Notes for bringing this book to my attention and providing summaries on the book to capture our interest.

Let’s make the world a better place together.

What if you had access to a simple yes or no answer to any question you have? POWER V/S FORCE by Dr Hawkins, M.D, Ph.D

Hello Dear Friends,

It's been a while since I wrote my blog. Summer seemed to have just flown by and it's been a great summer for me. Read many many wonderful books along with work and spending time with kids, summer just rolled away. With school starting a few weeks ago, life is now getting back to a normal routine. Today I am writing about an amazing book 'Force v/s Power (The Hidden Determinants of Human Behavior)' by Dr David R Hawkins, M.D, Ph.D.

"Perhaps the most important and significant book I've read in the past 10 years." - Dr Wayne W Dyer

I think many people will find the book heavy to read as it is filled with a lot of research information. If you like that then it is highly engrossing and you don't like to put the book down once you start reading it. It gives tools and techniques to raise our level of consciousness. One would need to practice these techniques to get really efficient in using them and that needs motivation, commitment and deep desire for change. I think if I had got this book a decade ago, I might even have found it uninteresting. So a lot depends on your state of the mind. True for everything though, right :)

What if EVERYONE had the knowledge to get the correct yes or no answer to any question you had? Questions on career decisions, relationships, family, purpose in life etc etc Wouldn't it be wonderful if we knew the right thing to do always.

Dr Hawkin talks about 'a database of consciousness' that we can all learn to connect to. What is also known as 'Universal Consciousness' in some eastern philosopy. He had based the connection between mind, body and spirituality on decades of research (20 plus years) and factual data.

He uncovered based on research that all subjects went weak from negative stimuli (such as pesticides, fluorescent lights, artificial sweetners), while students of spiritual disciplines, who had advanced their level of awareness, did not go weak as ordinary people did. Something had shifted in the consciousness of spiritual people that as they realized they weren't at the mercy of the world, but rather were affected by what their minds believed.

{KJ-> Imagine if you could know before you ate any food whether that food was good for your body or not, whether the food had ingredients that were harmful to you, BEFORE you ate it, WOW! that would be amazing, real amazing for your overall health. It's what you believe in that really controls how you live your life.)

The individual human mind is like a computer terminal connected to a giant database. The database is human consciousness itself, of which our own cognizance is merely an individual expression, The database is the realm of genius. Everyone by virtue of birth, has access to genius. The unlimited information contained in the database is has now been shown to be readily available to anyone in a few seconds, at any time, in any place. This is indeed an astonishing discovery, bearing the  power to change lives, both individually and collectively, to a degree never yet anticipated. The database transcends time, space, and all limitations of individual consciousness.

Man thinks he lives by virtue of the forces he can control, but in fact, he's governed by power from unrevealed sources, power over which he has no control. Because power is effortless, it goes unseen and unsuspected. Force is experienced through the senses, power can be recognized only through inner awareness.

Facts are accumalated by effort, but truth reveals itself effortlessly.

Dr Hawkins has given step by step process for testing the effects of any stimuli on your body. He uses muscle testing. The test response is independent of the tester's physical strength. It's frequently dumb founding to well muscled atheletes when they go just as weak as anyone else in response to a noxious stimulus.

The most profound piece of information in the book to me is the Map of Consciouness. It is calibrated on a scale of 0 to 1000.  The higher you are on the level, the more of the emotion in the level  you will experience in your life. You can see that Shame, Guilt, Apathy, Fear are all lower levels and take you away from higher consciousness. It is important to remember that the scale is not arthimetic but logarithmic progression. Thus the level 300 is not twice the amplitude of 150; it is 10 to the 300th power (10 raise to 300). An increase of even a few points represents a major advance in power, the rate of increase in power as we move up the scale is enormous.

The MAP is below:

Level                                           Log

Enlightment                             700 - 1000
Peace                                     600
Joy                                         540
Love                                      500
Reason                                   400
Acceptance                            350
Willingness                             310
Neutrality                               250
Courage                                 200
Pride                                      175
Anger                                     150
Desire                                    125
Fear                                       100
Grief                                        75
Apathy                                    50
Guilt                                        30
Shame                                     20

The critical response point in the scale of consciouness calibrates at level 200, which is the level associated with integrity and courage. All attitudes, thoughts, feelings, associations, entities, or  historical figures below that level of calibration make a person go weak - those that calibrate higher make subjects go strong. This is the balance point between positive and negative influence.

At the levels below 200, the primary impetus is personal survival, although at the very bottom of the scale - the zone of hopelessness and depression - even this motive is lacking.

The higher levels of Fear and Anger are characterized by egocentric impulses arising from the drive for personal survival.

At the level of Pride, the survival motive may expand to comprehend the survival of others as well.

As one crosses the demarcation between positive and negative influence into Courage, the well-being of others becomes increasingly important. By the 500 level, the happiness of others emerges as the essential motivating force. The high 500's are characterized by interest in spiritual awareness, for both oneself and others, and by the 600's, the good of mankind and search for enlightment are the primary goals.

From 700 to 1000, life is dedicated to the salvation of all of humanity.

Reflecton on the map can bring a profound expansion of one's empathy for life in its variety of expressions. We see, for instance, a person in Grief which calibrates at a low energy of 75, will be in much better condition if he rises to Anger, which calibrates at 150. Anger, itself a destructive emotion, is still a low level of consciousness. If a hopeless can come to want something better (Desire - 125) and then use the energy of Anger at 150 to develop Pride (175), they may be able to take the step to Courage (200) and proceed to improve their individual and collective conditions.

Conversely a person who has arrived at a habitual state of unconditional Love will find anything less to be unacceptable. As one advances in the evolution of his individual consciousness, the process starts to perpetuate and correct itself so that self-improvement becomes a way of life.

Let's look briefly at the levels. You can get the book to read more.

Energy Level 20, Shame

Early life experiences that lead to Shame - such as sexual abuse - wrap the personality for a lifetime unless these issues are resolved by therapy. (Hypnotherapy is highly effective). The shame based personality is shy,  withdrawn and intorverted. Shame based individuals compensate with perfectionism and rigidity, becoming driven and intolerant. Shame results in a vulnerability to other negative emotions, and, therefore, often produces false pride, anger and guilt.

Energy Level 30, Guilt

Guilt is used in our society to manipulate and punish, it results in a gamut of symptons of victimhood. Unconscious Guilt, results in psychosomatic disease, accident-proneness, and suicidal behaviors. Many people struggle with Guilt their entire lives while others deny it altogether.

Energy Level 50, Apathy

This level is characterized by poverty, despair and hopelessness. It is a state of helplessness, its victims, needy in every way, lack not only resources but the energy to avail themselves of what may be available. Unless external help is available by caregivers, death through passive suicide can result.

Energy Level 75, Grief

This is the level of sadness, loss and dependency. We may experience this at times, but those who remain at this level  live a life of constant regret and depression. This is also the level of habitual losers and gamblers who accept failure as part of their life. In Grief, one sees sadness everywhere.

Energy Level 100, Fear
At this level a lot more energy is available - fear of danger is healthy. From this level the world looks hazardous, full of traps and threats. Once Fear is one's focus, the endless worrisome events of the world feed it.  Fear becomes obsessive and can lead to jealousy, high stress levels. Because it takes energy to move to higher levels, the oppresed are unable to reach a higher level unaided.

Energy Level 125, Desire

Desire moves us to expend great effort to achieve goals or obtain rewards. Desire is also the level of addiction, where it becomes a craving more than life itself. Some people become addicted to the hunger of attention and drive others away by their constant demands. Desire has to do with accumalation and greed. But desire is unsatiable so the satisfaction of one itch is merely replaced by another. Desire can start us on the road to achivelment, to moving to higher levels of awareness.

Energy Level 150, Anger

Anger can lead to either constructive or destructive  action. Anger expresses itself most often as resentment and revenge and is therefore, volatile and dangerous. Anger as a lifestyle, is expressed by irritable, explosive people who are oversensitive to slights, and become, "injustice collectors", quarrelsome, belligerent, or litigious.

Since Anger stems from frustrated want, it's based on the energy field below it. Frustration results from exaggerating the importance of desires. Anger leads easily to hatred, which has an erosive effect on all areas of a person's life.

Energy Level 175, Pride

Pride has enough energy to run the United States Marine Corps. People feel positive as they reach this level. The rise in self-esteem is a balm to all the pain at the lower levels of concsiousness. Pride generally has a good reputation and is encouraged by society. Yet, it is below the critical level of 200 on the map of consciousness. That is why pride feels good only in contrast to the lower levels. The inflated ego is vulnerable to attack. Pride remains weak as it can be knocked out to Shame, which is the threat that fires the fear of loss and pride. The downside of Pride is arrogance and denial.

Recovery from addictions is impossible because emotional problems and character defects are denied. The whole problem of denial is one of Pride.

Energy Level 200, Courage

At this level Power first appears. This is the zone of exploration, accomplishment, fortitude and determination. Life is seen as exciting, challenging and stimulating. It denotes willingness to try new things and deal with the changes and challenges of life. One is able to cope with and handle opportunities of life. At 200, the energy to learn new job skills is available. Growth and education become attainable goals. Capacity to face fears and character defects and to grow despite them. Anxiety also does not cripple endeavor. People at this level put back into the world as much energy as they take. This is where productivity begins.

The collective level of consciousness of mankind remained at 190 for many centuries and, curiously only jumped to 207 within the last decade.

Energy Level 250, Neutrality

People at this level have a sense of well-being, confident capablity to live in the world. People at this level are easy to get along with and safe to be around and associate with because they are not iinterested in conflict, competiton or guilt. They are comfortable and undisturbed emotionally. Thier attitude is nonjudgemental and doesn't lead to any need to control other people's behavior.Correspondingly due to Neutral people's value of freedom, they are difficult to control.

Energy Level 310, Willingness

This level can be seen as a gateway to higher levels. Willingness implies one has overcome inner resistance to life and is committed to participation. People become genuinely friendly, and social and economic success seem to follow automatically. The willing aren't troubled by unemployment; they will take any job when they have to, or create a career of self-employement for themselves; they don't feel demeaned by service jobs or by starting at the bottom. They are helpful to others and contribute to the good of society. They are also willing to face inner issues and don't have major learning blocks. Self Esteem is high.

Willingness is sympathetic and responsive to the needs of others. With their capacity to bounce back from adversity and learn from experience, they tend to become self-correcting. Having let go of Pride, they are willing to look at their defects and learn from others. People become excellent students. They are easily trainable and represent a considerable source of power for society.

And he goes on to explain the other levels. Do pick up a copy if this write up sparks your interest. I think the book is excellent and definitely worth reading.

Would love to have your feedback so leave me a comment. Let's make this world a better place to live in.

Keep having fun and enjoying the present.

Cheers,

Karuna.

12 Laws to Access the Power in you to Achieve Happiness and Success: Do You! by Russell Simmons

Hello Everyone,

After reading the Rich Dad, Poor Dad book by Robert Kayosaki, I got hooked into reading many of his other books. In fact, I am still reading 3 books simultaneously :) One of the days I shall make notes on those books and post them here.

Today is for a very interesting book called 'Do You!' by Russell Simmons.

The NY Times calls Russell Simmons one of "the most innovative and influential figures in modern American Business and culture."

The book is full of inspiring stories, wit and wisdom on everything from mind power, growing spiritually, dreaming big and doing your best. Brian Johnson of Philospoher's notes has done a great summary on this book and I am thankful to him and his team for exposing this book to me. Thank you Brian!

So here goes my take on the book. Of course you know now, my comments are in [Karuna Comments].

Create Vision

“In my experience, there’s only one thing that will always steer you toward success: That’s to

have a vision and to stick with it… Once I have a vision for a new venture, I’m going to ride that
vision until the wheels come off.”

[This is such a powerful tool, creating a vision for yourself, how can you reach a destination if you have not  planned for it? Don't let the daily tasks of living boggle you down. Find your vision, put it on a piece of paper, see it, visualize it, and the way to reach you will come to you through your experiences. That's the power of your subconscious mind , yeah! I am a hypnotherapist and so a complete believer in power of your mind to manifest your vision]

So What is YOUR VISION?

Focus on Your Vision

“Focus on your vision and keep going until you hit the finish line. Don’t be one of the people

who believe in their vision at first but then give up. See it through, no matter how long it takes.
Understand that obstacles are just part of the game. Whatever you imagine, you can achieve.
Once you realize this truth, no one is going to be able to stop you.”

[Creating a vision is the first step. After all how can you go to the 2nd step before the 1st step. Am I being funny :-) Once you have a vision, then align your beliefs to your vision. After all if you don't believe in your vision how do you expect others to ? Find those self limiting beliefs that are obstacles to your reaching your vision and figure out how you can replace those beliefs. BTW, hypnotherapy is a wonderful wonderful therapy for removing self limiting beliefs. Once you have aligned your beliefs to your vision, then there will be expectancy and that is a critical step to achieving your vision. Once you have visions, beliefs and expectancy aligned, no one can stop you from reaching your vision]

Don’t Stall

“The pain that’s created by avoiding hard work is actually much worse than any pain created from the actual work itself. Because if you don’t begin to work on those ideas that God has blessed you with, they will become stagnant inside of you and eventually begin to eat away at you. You might seem OK on the outside, but inside you will be ill from not getting those ideas out of your heart and into the world. Stalling leads to sickness. But taking steps, even baby steps, always leads to success.”

[The most wonderful plans in the world are useless unless we learn to act on them. So you have your vision, you aligned it with your beliefs and expectancy. Now GET TO THE NEXT STEP....TAKE ACTION. My pet statement and I have quite a few of these pet statements :-), Tomorrow will only bring more of what you have today. So don't wait for tomorrow to start moving towards your vision. Start NOW! Take baby steps, remember my earlier blogs talking about Kaizen? Google it. Baby steps are the way to go.  In a research they did on older people. they found that people with goals and mission live longer, live healthier. Makes sense does that not? When you are walking towards your purpose in life, things coincidently just align on the way. But first you have to start WALKING on the path.]

AGE & #’S

“Age ain’t nothing but a number.”

[Stop using Age as an excuse! Get past this belief, move forward. Remember the 66 year young Colonel who started Kentucky Fried Chicken? Did age stop him from starting KFC? So why are you different?]

OBSTACLES

“Whatever obstacles appear in your path, put your head down and get past them. Those obstacles aren’t real. They’re just God’s way of testing you. He’s asking you, ‘Do you want to make it or not?’”

[HA! I really like this. Cool! So do you want to make it or not??? Sit back and think.]

EYE ON THE PATH

“I know some people say ‘Keep your eyes on the prize,’ but I disagree. When your eyes are stuck on the prize, you’re going to keep stumbling and crashing into things. If you really want to get ahead, you’ve got to keep your eyes focused on the path.”

[So true, so true. I see that in athletes especially, some of them are so focussed on winning or loosing that they lose their mental game and can't perform. You have to let go of the reward and just persists on the path]

ALWAYS DO YOU

“When I talk about Doing You, I’m really just asking you to listen to that voice of God inside of you again.”

[Russell talks a lot on spirituality in his book which I have not mentioned here. He talks about listening to your inner voice, your intuition, your guts and following it. Learning to tune within you and paying attention to your inner self. Do you do that? Do you? The answers to our problems lie within us, if we just learn to quiet down and tune in to our inner frequency. Meditation, Self Hypnosis are great great methods to reach our inner self, to tune within].

Keep having fun. Together we can make this planet a better place for you and me.
